Osmania Arts College celebrates Savitribai Phule Jayanti as ‘Women Teachers’ Day’

The University College of Arts and Social Sciences, Osmania University celebrated the birth anniversary of Savitribai Phule as ‘Women Teachers’ Day’ on Saturday. In accordance with the Telangana Government’s directives, the event was organized with great dignity by the Arts College Women Empowerment Cell (WEC). The celebrations began with professors, administrative staff, research scholars and students offering floral tributes and garlanding the portrait of Savitribai Phule. 

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Maya Devi, Chairperson of the Women Empowerment Cell, described Savitribai Phule as a revolutionary pioneer who fought relentlessly against exploitation and social oppression. She highlighted Phule’s monumental role in providing education to the marginalized sections of society, especially women, and urged the younger generation to carry forward her legacy of social reform. 

Dr. Konda Nageswara Rao, Vice Principal of the Arts College lauded Savitribai Phule’s resilience in the face of immense personal attacks and social boycotts while pursuing her mission of universal education. He further suggested that the revolutionary ideals found in the book Gulamgiri (authored by Mahatma Jyotirao Phule) should be incorporated into the academic syllabus to sensitize students toward social justice. 

The event was attended by a distinguished gathering including Vice Principal (Hostels) Dr. Balu Nayak, Women Empowerment Cell Co-Chairperson Dr. C. S. Swathi, Academic Coordinator Dr. P. Swathi, and OU Foreign Relations Director Prof. Vijaya. Other notable participants included OU NSS Coordinator Dr. Challamalla Venkateswarlu, Arts College PRO Dr. Ch. Parandamulu Prof. Ramulu, Prof. Indira, Prof. Krishna Kumar, Dr. Altaf Hussain, Dr. Namrata, D. R. Samson, A. R. Srinath, P. Linga Reddy, Aparna and several other staff members and students.
