A series of civil defence and fire safety mock drills held across various locations including Secunderabad, Golconda, Nacharam NFC area, and Kanchanbagh. Additional mock drills were conducted at Mehdipatnam, Mallapur, Rein Bazar, Moula Ali and Cyber tower junction on Wednesday.
The mock drill was held as per instructions from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) amid rising tensions with Pakistan post the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 persons, mostly tourists, dead.
Air raid alert Sirens were activated at 4pm within the Outer Ring Road (ORR), signaling the start of the drill. Citizens were instructed to stay indoors, seek shelter, and take cover. As Hyderabad conducted rare air raids and civil defence mock drills, residents were advised to follow key safety protocols during the two-minute war siren.
Rescue personnel evacuated people from buildings using ropes, provided medical aid, and shifted the 'injured' during the operations. Sirens were sounded again at 4.30 pm to mark the end of the drills. Senior police officials monitored the mock drills from the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) building in Banjara Hills. The mock drill in Hyderabad is intended to build awareness, improve preparedness, and reduce loss of life and property in the event of an actual hostile attack.
