‘30 months Wasted, now Talking on Land Acquisition’

06-06-2026 12:00:00 AM

Tell the people how much land you acquired in the last 2 1/2 years. It is shameful that you are speaking about land acquisition only now, after wasting 30 months in office.

BRS Deputy Floor Leader in Assembly T. Harish Rao countered Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy's statements made during the latter's visit to irrigation projects in Palamuru, alleging that the Chief Minister's remarks on land acquisition reflected a lack of understanding of the Palamuru Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme.

Harish Rao said that despite repeated attempts by Congress leaders to create hurdles and incite farmers against the project, the previous BRS government had successfully acquired 27,191 acres of land for the scheme. Challenging the Congress government to reveal how much land it had acquired in the last two and a half years, he termed it shameful that the government was speaking about land acquisition only after wasting 30 months in office.

In a strongly worded statement, Harish Rao also criticised Revanth Reddy over his comments on Krishna water utilisation,

alleging that the Chief Minister lacked even basic awareness of his own government's performance in protecting Telangana's water rights. Citing an official letter written by the Telangana Engineer in Chief to the Krishna River Management Board on May 2, 2026, he said Andhra Pradesh had utilised 74.23 per cent of available Krishna waters while Telangana's share stood at only 25.77 per cent.

Questioning both the Chief Minister and Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Harish Rao asked whether they were unaware of official communications issued by their own government. He alleged that despite projecting himself as a son of Palamuru, Revanth Reddy had done little for the undivided Mahabubnagar district during the last 30 months and was now resorting to falsehoods to divert public attention from the government's failures.

Harish Rao accused the Congress government of betraying Palamuru by failing to complete the Palamuru Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, which is intended to provide irrigation to 12.30 lakh acres and drinking water to 1,226 villages. He further alleged that Congress had opposed the project from the beginning and filed cases that delayed its execution, while the BRS government defended and accelerated the works.

Crediting former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for transforming the region's irrigation landscape, Harish Rao said projects such as Kalwakurthy, Bheema, Nettempadu and Koilsagar were expanded significantly under BRS rule, increasing irrigation coverage from about 27,000 acres before 2014 to nearly 6.5 lakh acres. He claimed that nearly 10 lakh acres in Palamuru received irrigation benefits during the BRS government's tenure.

Accusing the Congress government of failing to undertake even basic irrigation works during the last 30 months, Harish Rao said not a single major irrigation initiative had been taken up. He urged the Chief Minister to study official records before making allegations and cautioned the government against misleading the people of Telangana with what he termed false narratives.
