Narasaraopeta MP Lavu Srikrishna Devarayulu on Wednesday urged agriculture scientists to carry out research on doubling of farmer's income by reducing the cost of cultivation. He was the Chief Guest at the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU).Vice Chancellor Dr R. Sarada Jayalakshmi Devi presided the meeting.
The MP addressed the gathering and said the University is a world class institution, but opined that coordination and collaboration between departments is more needed to reach farmer grassroot level. The guest of honour Macharla MLA Julakanti Brahmananda Reddy explained the challenges faced by the farmers of Palnadu region, and mentioned the need for alternate crops, in particular horticulture crops to stabilize the former income.
Former MP and board member of ANGRAU Yalamanchili Shivaji explained the series of political decisions taken and implemented for development of Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University and stated that the university succeeded to bring technology from “lab to land” Dr Chintala Govindarajulu, former chairman, NABARD delivered a lecture on “Building the future on a Legacy of Excellence on group @60”
Former vice chancellors of Dr S Raghuvardhan Reddy and Dr V. Damodara Naidu, Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University VC, Dr J V Ramana, Dr YSR Horticulture University VC Dr B Gopal, Dr T Suguna, OSD Andhra Pradesh Fisheries University, and former University officers attended. Students from different colleges of ANGRAU performed the cultural events.
