Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has made a significant political outreach to build consensus around the proposed Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, which seeks to provide 33% reservation for women in legislatures. In a letter addressed to leaders of all political parties in the state, as well as Members of Parliament in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, Naidu called for unified support to ensure the landmark reform is implemented from the 2029 elections.

Emphasising the importance of collective political will, Naidu urged all stakeholders to back Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of operationalising women’s reservation in the next general and Assembly elections. He described the introduction of the Constitutional Amendment Bill in Parliament this month as a historic milestone in India’s democratic journey.

“The women’s reservation bill has been widely debated, and there has been a shared consensus on the need for its early implementation. Let us all come together to support the Prime Minister’s vision of enforcing these reservations from 2029,” Naidu said in his letter.

Stressing that the issue transcends political boundaries, the Chief Minister termed it a matter of national pride and responsibility. “I am writing this letter with a sense of duty towards the women of our country. This is an opportunity to honour and empower them, and it must not be missed,” he stated, urging every political party and MP to contribute to what he called a defining moment in India’s legislative history. Naidu reiterated his belief that meaningful progress in governance and policymaking can only be achieved through greater participation of women. He noted that the proposed law is not merely about representation but a catalyst for broader national development. Calling for collective support to the Centre, Naidu appealed to all stakeholders to ensure the success of this transformative reform.
