The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken strong exception to the derogatory remarks made by journalist Krishnam Raju during a debate aired on Sakshi TV, targeting women involved in the Amaravati movement. Acting suo motu, NCW Chairperson Vijay Rahatkar has written to Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Harish Kumar Gupta, directing immediate action.

Condemning the remarks, the NCW stated that such comments are deeply insulting to women and undermine their dignity. The Commission emphasized that women farmers played a crucial leadership role during the Amaravati protests and must be respected for their contribution.

Based on multiple media reports highlighting the journalist’s offensive language, the NCW has launched its own inquiry into the matter. The Commission has also asked the state police to submit a comprehensive action-taken report within three days.

Krishnam Raju’s inflammatory reference to Amaravati as a “capital of prostitutes” has sparked widespread outrage across the state. Notably, Sakshi TV anchor Kommineni Srinivasa Rao was recently arrested in connection with the same case, drawing further attention to the channel’s editorial conduct. The NCW’s intervention adds pressure on authorities to take swift and visible action in defense of women’s rights and public decency.
