National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar said that the Commission receives numerous complaints from across the country, but many women are unable to travel to Delhi to present their grievances. To address this issue, the NCW has launched the “Women’s Jan Sunwai” programme to reach out to women and resolve their problems at their doorstep.
NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar attended the Mahila Jan Sunwai programme organized at the conference hall of the Malkajgiri Police Commissioner’s Office on Thursday as the chief guest. DGP Shivdhar Reddy, Additional DGP Charusinha, Medchal–Malkajgiri District Collector Manu Chaudhary, Malkajgiri Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanti, Future City Commissioner Sudheer Babu, and Additional Collector Faizan Ahmed also participated in the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chairperson thanked the Malkajgiri and Hyderabad administration for their cooperation in organizing the Mahila Jan Sunwai (Public Hearing) programme conducted by the National Commission for Women. She said that if the NCW and the local administration work together, the issues faced by women can be resolved quickly and justice can be delivered more effectively.
She noted that the Commission receives many complaints from across the country, but since many women cannot travel to Delhi, the NCW decided to reach out to them directly through the initiative “National Commission for Women at Your Doorstep.” So far, around 100 public hearings have been conducted under this programme.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day on March 8, the Commission decided to organize such hearings simultaneously in about 500 districts across the country, with the aim of resolving 15,000 to 20,000 cases.
She expressed confidence that many women attending the programme in Malkajgiri would receive justice and return home satisfied. A total of 30 cases were heard during the programme held at the Malkajgiri Commissioner’s Office, and officials assured that these cases would be examined and resolved at the earliest to ensure speedy justice for the victims.
Malkajgiri RDO Shyam Prakash, Malkajgiri MRO Sitaram, DWO Sarada, DRDO Sambasiva Rao, DM&HO Umagouri, District Minority Officer Kantamma, District Housing Officer Ramanamurthy, police officials, and other officials also attended the programme.
