Amaravati: The arrest of Nidigunta Aruna, popularly known as the “Lady Don” of Nellore, has triggered a political storm in the region. Police detained her near the Santamaguluru toll plaza in Prakasam district and shifted her to the Kovvur police station. She was arrested in connection with a civil dispute case for allegedly threatening a local plot owner. Authorities confirmed that Aruna will be produced before the court.

According to officials, Aruna faces multiple charges, including threatening a Circle Inspector over the phone just four days ago by impersonating a call from the state Home Department. Police said she has long-standing links with rowdy-sheeter Srikanth and was allegedly involved in several land settlements, extortion, and intimidation cases during the YSRCP government’s tenure.

In recent days, Aruna courted controversy by openly issuing statements, releasing photos with political leaders, and dropping names of key figures that created ripples across the state.

Police suspect that YSRCP leaders may be behind her public campaigns, designed to embarrass the current government. Intelligence officials are now probing her wider network and influence.

Meanwhile, police are also examining past incidents, including the infamous “hospital episode,” where Aruna was linked to Srikanth during his parole period. Senior officials have gathered evidence suggesting that some politicians played a role in securing parole for Srikanth, which was later cancelled after controversial videos surfaced. Sources indicate that a detailed report on these links has already been submitted to the government.
