Olive Hospital leads the charge on World Heart Day

29-09-2025 12:00:00 AM

On World Heart Day, Olive Hospital calls for urgent action to protect every heartbeat, echoing the alarming findings of the WHO’s 2023 World Heart Report.

In 2021, cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) claimed 20.5 million lives globally—about one-third of all deaths. Ischemic heart disease and stroke remain the top killers.

Under the theme ‘Use Heart, Know Heart,’ Olive Hospital is expanding its heart health initiatives, including free screening camps, public awareness drives, and mobile units reaching underserved communities.

‘This is not just data, it’s a wake-up call,’ said Dr. Zahedullah Khan, Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Olive Hospital. ‘We must embed prevention and early detection into everyday life.’

The hospital is urging government stakeholders to improve access to primary cardiac care, make screenings affordable, and support lifestyle changes through nutrition, exercise, and smoking cessation programs.

Without immediate intervention, heart disease will continue to strain health systems and families alike. Olive Hospital stands committed to prevention, early care, and public education in the fight against the world’s leading killer.
