In the context of the lack of adequate supply of crude oil and natural gas, oil companies are conducting tests with the intention of exploring underground deposits. As part of this, a survey named “Mission Anveshana” was initiated by ONGC in Prakasham district with the intention of finding underground deposits of diesel, petrol and gas in AP. The officials have planned to carry out the survey from Vijayawada to Sullurupeta in Tirupati district.
The first phase in the combined Prakasam district was launched in February this year at Pamidipadu in Korisapadu mandal.Subsequently, the tests were completed in Tallur, Maddipadu, Addanki, Mundlamuru and Naguluppalapadu mandals. Recently, explorations have been started in the villages of Ongole mandal. ONGC intends to have gas reserves of two to three per mandal which be used for fulfilling the needs of nearby places thereby reducing the financial burden on the consumers.
In this context, a full-fledged soil test has been initiated through 2D survey being carried from satellites. As part of this, drilling upto a depth of 80 feet is being done and soil is being collected from the ground. The samples are being sent to ONGC research centre in Delhi. Once the initial testing is completed, 3D tests will be conducted. Instructions have been issued to the revenue officials at the field level to cooperate with ONGC in this regard.
