World Snake Day celebrated at Nehru Zoological Park

World Snake Day was celebrated on Wednesday (July 16th) at Nehru Zoological Park. On this occasion, snake awareness shows were conducted at the reptile house amphi-theater. About 700 school students and 600 visitors participated in this program. M. Deepak Tarun, Education Officer, Nehru Zoological Park(ZEO) demonstrated the live snakes and briefed about their habitat, lifestyle, difference between venomous and non venomous snakes, snake bite precautionary measures and snake identification.

The Zoological Park houses about 20 species of snakes which includes venomous and non-venomous snakes like King Cobra, Spectacled Cobra, Bamboo Pit Viper, Russell's Viper, Krait, Indian Rock Python, Rat Snake, Sand Boa, and also other reptiles. The efforts put by the zoo management, mainly Director, Curator, PRO and ZEO in educating with updated information on various aspects of wildlife and conservation were appreciated by one and all.

Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Sunil S. Hiremath, Director Zoo Parks, Telangana said that Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad is the first zoo in the country to introduce reptile house in glass barrier enclosure. He said that this ensures better viewer experience to the visitors.
