The Andhra Pradesh government remains firmly committed to the welfare and social security of unorganised sector workers, Labour Minister Vasamsetti Subhash informed the State Assembly on Monday, highlighting large-scale enrolment and expanded welfare initiatives aimed at protecting vulnerable labour communities.
Replying to a question raised by MLA Dr. Valmiki Partha Sarathi during the Assembly session, the minister said a total of 88,16,453 unorganised workers from across the State have registered on the e-Shram portal, enabling the government to extend targeted welfare benefits and maintain a comprehensive database of labourers. In addition, 18,24,221 workers have enrolled under the Andhra Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, he added.
Subhash said the government, under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, is accelerating worker registration drives across the State to ensure broader coverage and effective delivery of welfare schemes. He noted that several measures are being implemented to enhance financial security and provide social protection to workers and their families.
The minister outlined a range of welfare benefits currently being extended to registered workers, including free medical services and periodic health check-ups. Financial assistance of Rs. 20,000 is provided as maternity support, while Rs. 40,000 is granted as marriage assistance. In cases of natural death, families receive Rs. 60,000 as compensation, along with an immediate Rs. 20,000 to meet funeral expenses, he said.
To support education among workers’ families, the government is also implementing a scholarship scheme for children of construction workers studying from Class I to Class XII. Subhash added that the Welfare Board is conducting specialised skill development training programmes to enhance the employability and income opportunities of building and construction worker.
