Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Forest and Environment Pawan Kalyan on Thursday inspected the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park in Visakhapatnam, highlighting the importance of wildlife conservation for ecological balance and environmental sustainability. During the visit, he announced the adoption of two giraffes for a year to mark his mother Anjana Devi’s birthday, stating that he would personally bear the cost of their maintenance and care.
Pawan Kalyan inaugurated a newly constructed bear enclosure and visited several animal habitats, including those of elephants, black bears, tigers, lions, deer, African macaws and giraffes. He interacted with zoo officials to understand animal care practices, feeding patterns and veterinary support. Adhering to safety protocols, he fed elephants and giraffes with approved food after following sanitisation norms.
Emphasising wider participation in wildlife protection, he called on corporate organisations to collaborate with government agencies in zoo development and conservation efforts. He said zoos play a vital role in protecting endangered species and spreading public awareness, adding that animal adoption by individuals and corporates could strengthen conservation initiatives.
