Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate the redeveloped Rayanapadu Railway Station under the ABSS on July 17, making it the first among the 21 identified stations in Andhra Pradesh to be commissioned under the flagship railway modernisation programme, a senior railway official said on Wednesday.
Redeveloped at a cost of around Rs 36 crore, the station has been equipped with airport-like infrastructure and passenger amenities as part of Indian Railways' vision of upgrading stations to international standards.
"Rayanapadu will become the first of the 21 stations identified under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) in Andhra Pradesh to be inaugurated by PM Modi on July 17," Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Vijayawada Division of the South Coast Railway, said PE Edwin.
He said Rayanapadu is the first of the 21 Amrit stations in the state to be completed. Redevelopment works have also been completed at four more stations -- Eluru, Tuni, Kakinada Town and Nidadavolu -- and are in the final stage of commissioning. They are expected to be inaugurated within the current financial year, following which more Amrit stations will be opened in phases, he said.
The redevelopment has focused on creating a station that reflects local heritage through its facade while providing a spacious circulating area, ample parking facilities, premium interiors, modern lounges, upgraded ticket counters and enhanced passenger amenities, he added.
