The Central Working Committee (CWC) Meeting of the All India Newspaper Employees' Federation (AINEF) has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take immediate steps to amend the service rules as they are an impediment to the professional freedom of journalists and non-journalists. The resolutions passed by the Central Working Committee of the AINEF held for two days on 23rd and 24th February at the SSL Convention Centre in Kuchipudi, a popular Kuchipudi dance centre in Andhra Pradesh, were released by the national senior vice-president Chaladi Purnachandra Rao.
The event was presided over by Andhra Pradesh Journalists Union(APJU) general secretary Chaladi Purnachandra Rao and was attended by former minister and Avanigadda MLA Mandali Buddha Prasad, who has been the honorary president of APJU for the past decade. Rao said the meeting resolved to repeal the existing Working Journalists and Non-Journalists Miscellaneous Act, 1955 and bring in a new law. They also appealed to speed up the process of implementing the wage board recommendations provided in 2011 so that the financial condition of journalists and non-journalists improves.
The meeting was attended by general secretary V. Balagopalan and accompanied by CWC members from Assam, West Bengal, Orissa, Tamil Nadu, New Delhi, Kerala, Gujarat, and other states.
Speaking on the occasion of the 35th anniversary celebrations of The Andhra Pradesh Journalists Union(APJU) on the first day, Mandali Buddha Prasad in his presidential address said that there was a need to discuss and formulate action plans on various issues faced by journalists since a long time at the national level. He lamented that the rural reporters, especially those who are reporting in a fair and frank way in the society, are not getting proper recognition in the society.
Dr. P.S. Rao of P.S.R. Housing, noted industrialist Vikkurthi Srinivasa Rao, former Chairman of Movva AMC and industrialist and founder of SSL Convention Centre, ChikatiMarla Shivarama Prasad, A.P.J.U. Treasurer R.D. Prasad, Kuchipudi Village Sarpanch Kondaveeti Venkataramana Vijayalakshmi were felicitated on the occasion. Before the inaugural session, representatives from various states expressed happiness at the cultural events performed under the guidance of Pasumarthi Balakrishna,
principal in-charge of Kuchipudi Sri Siddhenda Natya Kalapeetham.
