The Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) aims to not only enable self-employment but also create jobs for others while paving the way for personal and professional growth. Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni) and District Collector Dr. G. Lakshmi Sha announced that a series of awareness programs will be conducted across constituencies starting January 2025 to promote this initiative.
On Tuesday, MP Kesineni and Collector Lakshmi Sha held a meeting at the Collectorate with officials from various departments, including industries, skill development, and DRDA, to discuss PMEGP. Speaking on the occasion, MP Kesineni Sivanath emphasized the collective efforts needed to achieve a developed India, Andhra Pradesh, and NTR District. He highlighted the importance of guiding youth towards self-employment opportunities that align with their interests, enabling comprehensive development.
He stressed the necessity of raising significant awareness about PMEGP, a credit-linked subsidy scheme, in both urban and rural areas. The MP also reiterated the state government’s vision of “One Family, One Entrepreneur” and called for coordinated efforts between officials and public representatives to achieve this goal. He added that efforts are underway to position NTR District as a model in all sectors.
Collector Dr. G. Lakshmi Sha urged officials to ensure that eligible beneficiaries make the most of self-employment and skill development programs offered by the central and state governments. He pointed out that the district houses approximately 40,000 MSMEs, which are key drivers of growth. Alongside supporting MSMEs, he said efforts are being made to encourage youth to establish new industries.
To enhance awareness, a special campaign on PMEGP will be conducted, covering every aspect—from business idea generation and project design to application processes, subsidies, loans, marketing opportunities, and strategies for sustaining successful enterprises. The collector noted that PMEGP provides opportunities to establish around 1,056 types of units. He called for dedicated efforts by officials from various departments to ensure NTR District remains at the forefront in realizing the vision of “Golden Andhra by 2047.”
