TRS President K Kavitha and her party workers were taken into custody on Thursday and taken to the Bollarum police station as they attempted to occupy government lands here to distribute them to the families of the Telangana statehood protesters.

Kavitha, who reached Boduppal here along with the workers of Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS), sought to occupy a land parcel after performing a puja.

However, she was taken into custody by police, who shifted her to the Bollarum police station in the city.

Speaking on the occasion, Kavitha alleged that police lathicharged women and others. She said the TRS is only demanding the implementation of the promise of the ruling Congress to provide 250 sqft of land to families of those who fought for Telangana statehood.

Claiming that "countdown" has begun for the Congress government, she said her party would continue to fight to implement the promises made to Telangana 'udyamakarulu' (activists who fought for statehood).

Later, TRS workers held a protest at the Bollarum police station against the police taking Kavitha into custody, according to a BRS release.

The Congress government has appointed a committee, comprising former MP K Keshav Rao and others, to identify and honour activists who fought for Telangana statehood. The state of Telangana was created on June 2, 2014, by bifurcating the undivided Andhra Pradesh.
