Telangana Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar re-inaugurated the historic Purani Haveli building on Wednesday, bringing the iconic “Kotwal House” back into use as part of the Hyderabad Police Commissioner's office. Once the headquarters of city police from 1920 to 2002, the building had fallen into disrepair and was considered for demolition after its roof collapsed in 2021.

C.V. Anand, IPS, Commissioner of Police, lauded the initiative of Chalamalasetty Anil Kumar, Director of Ace Urban Developers Pvt. Ltd. and Greenko Group, for fully funding the restoration. The renovation commenced in December 2022 and was executed by architect Mir Barkatullah Khan of Deccan Terrain Agencies. Anand emphasized the significance of preserving Hyderabad’s architectural legacy and stated that the City Kotwal would now have a dedicated space for public interaction in the old city.

The Commissioner will hold public meetings weekly at Purani Haveli (Fridays), Basheerbagh (one day), and the main office at ICCC, Road No. 12, Banjara Hills (other days). In addition to the re-inauguration, Minister Prabhakar also opened newly constructed buildings for Kalapathar, Chatrinaka Traffic, and Shalibanda Police Stations, bolstering law enforcement infrastructure in Hyderabad.

Several dignitaries attended the event, including MPs Asaduddin Owaisi and Mandadi Anil Kumar Yadav, MLAs, MLCs, and senior IPS officers, who collectively hailed the effort to restore the city's historical structures and expand its policing facilities.
