Move to combat fake entries
The Telangana government has launched a new security initiative by issuing advanced identity cards equipped with QR codes and RFID technology to employees at the state Secretariat, aiming to prevent morphing and unauthorized access using fake IDs.
The move comes in response to security breaches reported last February, when private individuals gained entry to the Secretariat premises using counterfeit ID cards and took selfies. Police investigations highlighted vulnerabilities in the existing system, prompting recommendations for enhanced technical measures. Officials announced that the new ID cards feature the Telangana Talli statue, the Secretariat logo, employee photographs, unique ID numbers, a scannable QR code for instant verification of details, and an embedded RFID chip. These elements are designed to make morphing or duplicating the cards virtually impossible.
"The introduction of these technologically advanced IDs, along with recent face recognition systems for employees, will significantly strengthen Secretariat security and eliminate fake entries," government sources stated.
Distribution began on Thursday in the first phase, targeting approximately 1,300 regular employees and 300 Class-4 staff. The remaining employees will receive their cards shortly, ensuring complete rollout in the coming days. This move is part of broader efforts to modernize administrative security protocols in Telangana. Authorities expressed optimism that the upgrades will deter future incidents and maintain strict access control.
