The Ministry of Railways has sanctioned Rs. 271.43 crores for the integrated redevelopment project of Rajahmundry railway station keeping in mind the Godavari pushkarams to be held in 2027 as well as the future requirements of the next 47 years by the year 2072. Rajahmundry MP Purandeswari on Thursday met senior railway officials in this regard. She sought for tenders to be called immediately and steps to be taken to start the works in the wake of the pushkarams. Full-fledged development plans have been drawn up with an estimated 9,533 persons per hour and 95,328 people travelling from here per day by the year 2071-2072.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier laid the foundation stone for the Rs 250-crore Amrit Bharat station project through virtual mode. Subsequently, new proposals for the comprehensive redevelopment project came to the fore. MP Purandeswari and alliance leaders held discussions with railway officials for the development of west and east stations. Proposals were sent with re-estimates.
Later, the Railways announced that Rs 271.43 crore has been sanctioned. A total of 2121 works have been proposed to be taken up for godavari pushkarams to be held in AP in 2027. Further, in line with future requirement, it has also been proposed to undertake certain long term constructions such as G+5 station building with commercial spaces , plaza with to make available retail outlets and eateries, 17 escalators and 7 lifts with continuous panels (COP), Foot Over Bridges (FOB) on either side of the station, development of 4 parking lots with a capacity to keep 300 cars , etc.
