The Telangana unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday released a detailed charge sheet against the Congress government, accusing it of “misleading the public with fake guarantees, deceptive promises, and widespread corruption.” BJP state president N. Ramchander Rao alleged that the Congress had promised six guarantees and over 420 commitments to voters to win elections, but after coming to power, it had “betrayed people, employees, and youth.” He claimed that the state was running entirely on Central funds and that meaningful development, especially at the municipal level, was possible only under BJP leadership.
The charge sheet, titled “Save Telangana… Vote BJP,” was unveiled at Haritha Plaza in Hyderabad in the presence of BJP MP Etela Rajender, municipal elections in-charge Ashish Shelar, and co-incharge Ashok Parmani. Rao criticized the Congress for failing to deliver even basic services, including salaries and retirement benefits, pointing out that nearly 40 retired employees had died while waiting for dues. He alleged that promises such as Rs 1,000 crore to Osmania University and Rs 4,000 monthly unemployment allowance had not been fulfilled.
Rao also highlighted the health and welfare failures under Congress. Thousands of crores remained unpaid to private hospitals under the Aarogyasri scheme, preventing poor patients from getting private hospital admissions. He questioned the implementation of the Indiramma housing scheme and said that while the Centre was funding several welfare and development programs, the state government failed to deliver or misused the funds.
Raising serious allegations of corruption, Rao said that approximately Rs 2,500 crore collected as municipal taxes across seven municipalities had gone unaccounted for. He labeled Congress as a “40 per cent commission party,” accusing it of collecting taxes but failing to spend them for public welfare. The BJP leader also expressed concern over law and order, citing the spread of drugs in rural areas, increasing incidents of murder and rape, and attacks on Hindu temples. He accused the government of downplaying these issues by labeling the perpetrators as mentally unstable.
Rao further alleged that infighting among Congress ministers had paralyzed governance. He said the situation had escalated to threats involving firearms, and claimed that phone tapping, previously linked to the BRS, might still be continuing under Congress. He held the Chief Minister responsible for failures in Home, Law, and Municipal Administration departments.
Ashish Shelar, BJP municipal elections in-charge, said the party’s only agenda was development, which was evident in its budget and governance approach. He criticized Congress and BRS for misgovernance and corruption, adding that the BJP had been forced to release the charge sheet to expose these failures. Shelar urged voters to give BJP a chance in the municipal elections to free Telangana from corruption and misrule.
The event was attended by state general secretary Dr N. Gautam Rao, chief spokesperson N.V. Subhash, and senior BJP leaders G. Venkat Reddy, Sunita, Vithal, and Kappar Prasad.
