A rare Grey Junglefowl, a wild bird species predominantly found in the dense forests of southern India, has recently been spotted in the Kawal Tiger Reserve Forest in Jannaram mandal of Mancherial district. The Grey Junglefowl, which belongs to the pheasant and domestic fowl family, differs significantly from common chickens as it is exclusively adapted to forest habitats and spends most of its life foraging and moving on the forest floor. The rare sighting was made by Jannaram Forest Range Officer (FRO) Ram Mohan during a routine inspection of the forest area.
Upon noticing the bird, the officer immediately photographed it, documenting its presence in the reserve. Speaking on the occasion, Ram Mohan warned that hunting wild animals and birds is a punishable offense and could result in imprisonment. He emphasized that the Forest Department is giving special attention to the protection of rare species such as the Grey Junglefowl. The officer further clarified that hunting, killing, capturing, or consuming the meat of Grey Junglefowl is strictly prohibited under law. He stated that stringent action would be taken against anyone found violating wildlife protection regulations. According to the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, offenders involved in such activities may face severe penalties, including hefty fines and imprisonment. The Forest Department has urged the public to cooperate.
