Remote agency villages suffering from lack of mobile network

The district administration has begun taking steps to improve mobile connectivity in areas that currently lack network access. Collector Sneha Sabarish has directed officials to prioritize the expansion of mobile services

Several remote villages in the agency areas of Mahabubabad district continue to face severe mobile network shortages, leaving residents disconnected from basic digital services.

People living in remote villages across Kothaguda, Gangaram, Gudur, and Bayyaram mandals are often forced to travel to specific locations where mobile signals are available. In many cases, they must climb hills or even trees to make phone calls or access the internet. The lack of reliable connectivity has created significant hardships for residents.

Welfare schemes affected by poor connectivity

The expansion of digital governance has made mobile phone access essential for availing government welfare benefits. Services such as urea distribution, the Indiramma housing scheme, Anganwadi administration, education department operations, Panchayat Raj services, the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), and the recently introduced SIR programme all depend heavily on online data uploads. In many tribal villages, weak or nonexistent mobile networks have become a major obstacle to implementing these programmes effectively.

The district administration has begun taking steps to improve mobile connectivity in areas that currently lack network access. Collector Sneha Sabarish has directed officials to prioritize the expansion of mobile services across the agency mandals. Authorities say suitable land belonging to the Forest Department, Revenue Department, and other government agencies should be identified for the installation of mobile towers to ensure that network coverage reaches tribal communities. 

The district administration assured telecom companies that the government is prepared to provide suitable land for the construction of mobile towers in remote agency areas and urged service providers to expedite the installation of new towers to bridge the digital divide.
