The Telangana State Legal Services Authority has launched a Legal Awareness campaign called Road Suraksha Abhiyan – 2026, being observed from January 5 to January 9, 2026. This programme is designed to remind every citizen that road safety is not just about following rules it is about protecting lives. Every journey we take, whether short or long, carries responsibility. The campaign’s message is simple speed is not important, life is precious. Accidents on our roads have become a serious concern. Many of them happen because of carelessness, over speeding, or ignoring basic safety measures. The campaign highlights that wearing a helmet or seatbelt is not optional it is essential. These small actions can save lives in a moment of danger. Similarly, avoiding mobile phone use while driving is a basic precaution. A few seconds of distraction can change lives forever, not only for the driver but also for innocent pedestrians and fellow travellers.

Another important message is about drunk driving. Alcohol makes it hard to think clearly and slows down your reactions, making roads unsafe for everyone. The campaign strongly reminds people that drinking and driving is not only dangerous but also irresponsible. Over speeding is another major cause of accidents. Driving within limits ensures control and safety. Respecting traffic signals and signboards is equally important, as they are designed to guide and protect us message shared by Nandigama Narender, Advocate, Ranga Reddy District Court.

The campaign also draws attention to practices that are often ignored but highly risky. Triple riding on two wheelers, allowing minors to drive, or driving vehicles without insurance are all unsafe and punishable. Carrying necessary documents and keeping vehicles insured are not just legal requirements they provide security in case of emergencies. Giving way to ambulances is another humane act that can save lives. Similarly, respecting pedestrians at zebra crossings shows care and responsibility towards fellow citizens.

Beyond safety rules, the campaign also informs people about where to seek help. Free legal assistance is available through District Legal Services Authorities and Mandal Legal Services Committees located in court premises. Citizens can also reach out to emergency helplines 1098 for child help, 1930 for cybercrime, 1091 for sexual harassment, and the NALSA toll free number 15100 for legal advice. These services ensure that people are not left alone in times of need. The Road Suraksha Abhiyan – 2026 is more than a week long programme. It is a reminder that every driver, rider, and pedestrian has a role to play in making roads safer. Road safety begins with individual responsibility. When we wear helmets, fasten seatbelts, avoid distractions, and respect traffic rules, we are not only protecting ourselves but also safeguarding others. Our families wait for us at home, and it is our duty to return safely.
