Role of psychologists in society has increased: TPA President

The responsibility of psychologists in safeguarding society from the growing mental health crisis has increased significantly amid changing social conditions, fast-paced lifestyles, rising stress levels and psychological disorders, Telangana Psychologists Association (TPA) State President Dr. Mothukuri Ramachander said. Speaking as the Chief Guest at the Indian Psychology Day celebrations held at Helen Keller Institute Conference Hall in Neredmet on Sunday, Dr. Ramachander said achieving mental well-being has become a major challenge in modern life.

Highlighting the work of the Association over the past nine years, he said that the organization has created awareness about mental health among lakhs of people across the state. He also mentioned that the association has trained hundreds of psychologists and counselors while supporting the establishment of counseling centers in various districts. Dr. Ramachander encouraged mental health professionals to integrate emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) with traditional practices to deliver more effective and accessible services.

TPA Vice President Lion Dr. Umar Khan said the development of a society or nation depends not only on physical health but also on the mental strength of its citizens. During the event, the association released its annual activity schedule outlining a series of programs to be conducted during the year. The association felicitated psychologists who contributed significantly to the field of psychology and mental healthcare.
