Jagruthi president Kalvakuntla Kavitha has demanded a compensation of Rs. 1 crore for the families of the Telangana Martyrs. Prior to initiating the “Janam Bata” (Path of the People) Yatra, which will cover 119 Assembly constituencies across 33 districts in Telangana State, Kavitha paid her respects at the Amaraveerula Stupam (Martyrs’ Memorial) in Gun Park, Hyderabad, on Saturday.

While addressing the gathering, Kavitha also apologized to the families of the Telangana Martyrs for what she termed "10 years of injustice," stating that the previous government had failed to provide complete justice to them.

She remarked that although 1,200 courageous individuals sacrificed their lives for the creation of Telangana, only 580 families have received justice thus far. She emphasised, "The principles and aspirations for which they gave their lives remain unmet. I firmly urge the State government to grant Rs. 1 crore in compensation to every martyr’s family."

The Jagruthi leader expressed her regret to the martyrs and their families for the failure to provide compensation during the tenure of the BRS government.

"Throughout the decade of the BRS government's tenure, even though I did not hold a ministerial position, I remained active as an MP and MLC. During this period, I advocated in internal party meetings for financial support to be provided to the families of martyrs in some capacity. However, I believe I could have been more persistent in this effort. Today, we honour the martyrs who gave their lives for the dignity and prosperity of the people of Telangana. I am committed to continuing my advocacy until every martyr's family receives a compensation package of Rs. 1 crore. I urge this government to promptly allocate Rs. 1 crore to each family of the martyrs," Kavitha stated.
