Minister for Transport Ponnam Prabhakar announced that the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) is on a path to profitability and is currently generating revenue. The Minister has expressed his delight at achieving a significant milestone with the completion of 200 crore free journeys for women under the Maha Lakshmi scheme. He extended his congratulations to the women who have benefited from this initiative, as well as to the RTC drivers and conductors who contributed to its success.

During a ceremony at the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station on Wednesday, the Minister highlighted the achievement of providing 200 crore complimentary rides for women on RTC buses. He noted that women throughout the state are enjoying free transportation to various destinations, taking full advantage of this opportunity for commuting to work, visiting temples, and shopping.

"In the past decade, RTC has experienced a decline, leading many to question its very survival. However, RTC is now transitioning from operating at a loss to generating profits. The corporation is purchasing new buses and making new appointments. Over the last ten years, the state government utilised funds from RTC employees, but the current administration is now ensuring those funds are being repaid," he revealed.

The Minister stated that the State government will always support the RTC and steps will be taken to strengthen the organisation. Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Government Whip Beerla Ilaiah, Special Chief Secretary Vikas Raj, RTC MD Sajjanar, Hyderabad Collector Dasari Harichandana and other officials were present.
