The Telangana government has appointed senior IAS officer Sanjay Jaju as the next Chief Secretary of the state. Orders issued on Friday named the 1992 batch officer, who was recently repatriated from central deputation, to the state's highest bureaucratic position. He will assume office on July 1, succeeding incumbent Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, whose extended tenure concludes on June 30, 2026.

The appointment marks a significant administrative transition, with the government opting for an experienced officer who will remain in service until February 2029. His tenure is expected to provide continuity through the next Assembly elections and the formation of the subsequent government.

Jaju was selected despite the availability of two other senior officers from the same batch-Jayesh Ranjan and Vikas Raj. His longer remaining service period is seen as a key factor behind the government's decision, ensuring stable leadership in the state's administrative machinery over the coming years.

Along with the responsibilities of Chief Secretary, Sanjay Jaju has been entrusted with full additional charge as Special Chief Secretary to the Industries and Commerce Department and the Information Technology Department. He will also serve as Chief Executive Officer of the Industry and Investment Cell in the Chief Minister's Office while overseeing the Smart Proactive, Efficient and Effective Delivery (SPEED) initiative.

A seasoned administrator with extensive experience in governance and digital transformation, Jaju has played an important role in shaping Information Technology and e-governance initiatives. During his earlier tenure in the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh, he was instrumental in conceptualising and implementing the Mee Seva platform, which transformed the delivery of government services by making them accessible to citizens through a single digital interface.

Before moving to the Centre, he served as Information Technology Secretary and Vice Chairman of the Infrastructure Corporation of Andhra Pradesh. During his central deputation, he held key positions under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, including Director in the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation. He also contributed significantly to digitising services in the National Highways Authority of India, enhancing transparency, efficiency and citizen access through online platforms.

K. Ramakrishna Rao appointed Advisor to Chief Minister

Following his retirement, K. Ramakrishna Rao has been appointed as Advisor and ex officio Special Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister. He had assumed charge as Chief Secretary in April 2025 and was granted two extensions, seven months followed by three months, enabling him to continue until June 30. The government said separate orders detailing the terms and conditions of his new assignment will be issued.
