‘SCDP to be setup in Hindupur’

Backward Class Welfare, EWS Welfare, Handloom and Textiles Minister S Savitha said on Wednesday that under the National Handloom Development Programme (NHDP), the centre has sanctioned Small Cluster Development Programme (SCDP) in Hindupur to provide employment opportunities to weavers and to train them in modern garment manufacturing. 

She said that 292 weavers will be benefited from this cluster. The minister held a review meeting with Hindupur MLA N.Balakrishna at Secretariat on the implementation of the SCDP.On this occasion, State Handloom and Textiles Commissioner Rekha Rani gave a power point presentation on the establishment of SCDP. Minister Savita informed that the centre will contribute Rs 1.44 crore and the beneficiaries will contribute Rs 7.12 lakh to the SCDP out of a cost of Rs 1.51 crore. 

Responding to this, MLA Balakrishna said that plans have been made to train the weavers through experts and fashion designers in the manufacture of new handloom garments. He said that the weavers will be trained keeping in mind the ideas and fashion of the present generation. Minister Savita mentioned that silk required for the manufacture of silk textiles is not produced in the state at present. Stating that it has to be sourced from Bengaluru and other places, she added that steps are being taken to increase the cultivation of silk in the state.
