With festive crowds expected to surge past 2 lakh passengers daily, South Central Railway (SCR) has rolled out a detailed plan to manage the rush at Secunderabad station. Typically handling around 1.3 lakh passengers a day, the station becomes a major hub during peak holiday periods.

A recent two-day study found that nearly 90% of unreserved passengers prefer the Platform 1 side due to its better connectivity with RTC buses, metro, and nearby hotels. To ease crowding, SCR is considering diverting some trains through Sanathnagar–Ammuguda–Maula Ali–Charlapalli, adding halts at satellite stations like Charlapalli.

To reduce congestion on platforms, holding areas have been designated outside the ticketing zones. On the Platform 1 side, two holding zones near gates 2 and 5 can accommodate up to 1,500 passengers. On Platform 10, a holding area near gate 8 can handle 1,125 passengers.

A new entry and exit point is under construction connecting Platform 1 with Secunderabad (West) metro station to streamline passenger flow. To minimize traffic, those arriving by private vehicles are urged to use the spacious Platform 10 (Bhoiguda) side, which now includes a 200-car basement parking. The previous 12-minute toll gate restriction has also been removed for smoother access.

Foot Over Bridge (FOB) staircases, which see over 10,000 passengers per hour during peak times, will now operate as one-way routes during critical hours (4–9 AM and 8–11 PM), guided by staff and clear signage. Extra help desks, enquiry counters, ticketing machines, and monitoring by senior officers will support smooth operations.

SCR is coordinating closely with GRP, city police, and RTC to manage passenger and vehicle flow. Travelers are encouraged to use the RailOne app for real-time train info, ticketing, food orders, and lodging complaints.
