South Central Railway is always in the forefront of introducing user-friendly and digital initiatives. The Zone has introduced the ‘UTS’ mobile application over 26 suburban stations in Hyderabad twin cities in 2016.Later, this facility has been extended to all the non-suburban stations for the booking of Platform, Journey and Season Tickets with effect from July, 2018 covering all the UTS stations over this Railway.
In a step to facilitate more convenience of unreserved passengers, booking of Paperless Ticketing has been enabled to all the destinations across Indian Railways. The UTS app is a big leap in the modern ticketing system and a boon to the huge segment of passengers on Indian Railways who travel on unreserved tickets.
In line with the digital India initiative, the app enables cashless transactions and passengers can make the payment through different digital modes such as R-Wallet, Paytm, PhonePe, Google Pay, UPI Apps or through internet banking and so on. R-Wallet will be available in UTS app in which the amount can be deposited up to the limit of Rs 20,000. As a promotional gesture, 3% cash back is being given on the tickets purchased through R-Wallet.
Since the date of introduction of UTS App, the app has been receiving positive response from rail users and the number of passengers utilizing the app has always been encouraging. The share of unreserved tickets booked through mobile app has been steadily increasing with the initiatives of the zone. The average passengers in a day availing the UTS mobile App facility in 2023-24 from April to January was 83,510 while the average passengers per day in the current financial year 2024-25 is 93,487, which denotes 12% increase in the usage of UTS App for purchasing tickets.
The distance restrictions imposed initially for purchase of general tickets have been relaxed and the rail users are being able to purchase the tickets from any location. In simple terms, the passenger can book their tickets (both Journey/Platform tickets) from their home itself and board the train without standing in long queues for purchasing the Unreserved Tickets. People with a smart phone of Android, IOS and Windows versions of operating system can download the app free of cost. The UTS app is user friendly and consists of various key features such as Multi-Language Support, Cashless transactions and help tab which provides different kinds of customer support including step by step guide on how to use the app, helpline numbers and frequently asked questions.
