Former MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi has been booked in another case, this time on land grabbing charges. A case has been registered at the Gannavaram police station following a complaint filed by the victims, who allege that Vamsi illegally occupied their land worth Rs. 10 crore in the Gandhi Bomma Center area of Gannavaram.

The disputed land belongs to Sunkara Seetha Mahalakshmi, wife of High Court advocate Sunkara Krishnamurthy. The issue was initially raised during a public grievance meeting on July 15, 2024. Taking the complaint into consideration, the district collector had previously instructed the police to register a case. However, despite earlier complaints regarding the land grab, the victims claim that authorities had taken no action until now. Along with Vamsi, 15 others have been named in the complaint.

This development comes at a time when the state government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe allegations of illegal mining, land grabbing, threats, and financial crimes involving the former MLA. Notably, a day after the SIT’s formation, the police acted on the land grabbing complaint and registered a case under seven sections, including IPC Sections 352, 420, 467, 468, 471, 506, and 120B.

In a separate legal setback, Vallabhaneni Vamsi has been taken into three-day police custody in connection with a kidnapping case. The police are set to interrogate him based on the statement of the victim, Satyavardhan. Tight security arrangements were made as Vamsi was transported to Vijayawada Government Hospital for medical examinations, with drone surveillance monitoring the transfer. He is expected to be questioned at the Krishna Lanka police station from 10 AM to 5 PM daily.

The Vijayawada SC/ST Special Court has granted permission for Vamsi’s lawyers to interact with him four times a day during the interrogation. Furthermore, the court has directed the police to keep the investigation within the Vijayawada limits. Meanwhile, the police are preparing to file a counter against Vamsi’s bail petition.

The court has extended Vamsi’s judicial remand, which was set to expire today. As a result, he was presented virtually before the Vijayawada SC/ST Court, which ordered the extension of his remand until March 11. The legal proceedings against the former MLA continue to intensify as multiple cases mount against him.
