SCR Registers Highest-Ever Freight Loading Since its Inception

26-03-2026 12:00:00 AM

South Central Railway (SCR) has achieved its highest-ever freight loading since inception, recording an impressive 144.244 million tonnes (MTs) during the current financial year 2025–26 (up to March 24, 2026). Notably, this milestone was reached a week before the close of the financial year, underscoring the Zone’s operational efficiency and sustained performance.

The latest achievement surpasses the previous record of 144.14 MTs registered during 2024–25, marking a new benchmark in SCR’s freight operations.

SCR has traditionally excelled in transporting coal and cement, particularly from the Singareni Collieries Company Limited and various cement manufacturing units within its jurisdiction. At the same time, the Zone has actively diversified its freight portfolio by attracting new commodities to rail transport.

The commodity-wise freight loading includes 66.878 MTs of coal, 37.572 MTs of cement, 8.620 MTs of iron ore, 8.038 MTs of fertilizers, 4.810 MTs of raw materials for steel plants, 6.225 MTs of food grains, 2.561 MTs of containers, 1.223 MTs of petroleum, oil and lubricants (POL), and 8.349 MTs of other goods—bringing the total to 144.244 MTs.

This record-breaking performance is attributed to strong teamwork across departments and effective coordination within the organization. SCR has also focused on improving infrastructure, enhancing facilities at freight terminals, and upgrading goods sheds to streamline operations. Regular engagement with freight customers has further helped in addressing their requirements promptly. The Zone’s strategic push towards capturing non-traditional commodities and increasing port-based freight loading has significantly contributed to this achievement.

Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, General Manager of SCR, congratulated the operations and commercial teams for reaching this milestone. He also acknowledged the contributions of departments such as Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical, and Signal & Telecommunications (S&T) for their coordinated efforts.

He commended the officers and staff for their dedication and encouraged them to sustain the momentum and aim for further growth in freight business.
