In a big move aimed at advancing gender equality in politics, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday announced that 60 out of the projected 153 Assembly tickets will be allotted to women candidates in the next Assembly elections. This move goes beyond the 33% reservation quota mandated under the Women’s Reservation Bill, which would allocate 51 seats for women.

Speaking at the Vana Mahotsavam 2025 inaugural event at Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) on Monday, the Chief Minister emphasised his government’s commitment to women’s empowerment. He said the reservation for women will be implemented following the delimitation of Assembly constituencies and vowed to personally ensure the distribution of 60 Congress tickets to women candidates.

The Chief Minister stated that the Telangana Legislative Assembly will expand from 119 to 153 seats following the upcoming delimitation, and under the 33% reservation for women, 51 seats will be reserved. “The Congress government will go a step further and allot 60 MLA tickets to women candidates in the next elections. I take full responsibility for this decision,” Revanth Reddy declared.

"In Indiramma Rajyam, girls must stand with self-respect. Our government is determined to build a Telangana where women lead with dignity," he stated. Revanth also criticized the previous BRS government for neglecting women's representation in leadership roles, particularly the prolonged absence of a woman minister.

CM, stressing on his government’s strong commitment to women’s empowerment, outlined a series of ambitious initiatives aimed at enhancing gender equity and economic independence for women across Telangana.

Highlighting key empowerment initiatives, the Chief Minister said, “This year alone, we have disbursed Rs. 21,000 crore in loans to women’s self-help groups (SHGs) to enhance their financial stability.” He noted that the government is encouraging women to operate a fleet of 1,000 RTC buses through a lease-to-own model, alongside the provision of free RTC bus travel for all women in the state. “Women’s SHGs will now be promoted in urban areas as well, empowering women in cities just as we are doing in villages,” he added.

Further elaborating on the government’s empowerment roadmap, Revanth Reddy said, “We are assigning women key roles such as running Indira Shakti canteens, managing solar power initiatives, and monitoring attendance in government schools.”

He also announced that marketing platforms are being created for women entrepreneurs at Hi-Tech City to help them showcase their products in corporate hubs. Reiterating his flagship promise, the Chief Minister said, “Our goal is to make one crore women crorepatis through structured economic support and entrepreneurship development schemes.”
