Telangana Handloom, Textiles and Endowments Principal Secretary Shailaja Ramaiyar on Thursday stressed the need to preserve India’s traditional weaving arts, calling handloom craft a vital part of the nation’s cultural identity.

She was speaking after inaugurating the Indian Silk Gallery’s silk exhibition at Sathya Sai Nigamagam in Srinagar Colony.

Ramaiyar said the sarees on display highlight both artistic excellence and high-quality silk production, offering visitors a window into the skills of India’s weaving communities.

After touring the stalls, she congratulated artisans from 14 states, noting that their work would undoubtedly appeal to women shoppers. She urged the public to support handloom creators and encouraged women to visit the expo to appreciate the craftsmanship firsthand.

She also praised organizers Srinivasa Rao and Vinay Kumar for bringing together weavers from across the country and enabling them to sell directly to consumers. With the festive season approaching, the expo features rare sarees from Pochampally, Madanapalle, Gadwala, Venkatagiri, Chanderi, Ikkat, Narayanpet, Benares, Kolkata and more. Supported by the Ministry of Textiles, the exhibition hosts 80 stalls and will run until December 10.
