At the 4th Collectors’ Conference, Chief Secretary and Energy Department Secretary K  Vijayanand announced that APDISCOMs have invited tenders for solarization of 2,93,587 agricultural pump sets, with a total solar capacity of around 1,163 MW He presented a comprehensive overview of the state’s power sector and outlined ambitious plans for renewable energy expansion and grid modernization.

He stated that between October 2025 and March 2026, the state is expected to reach a peak load of 12,762 MW, with daily demand ranging between 207 and 250 MU. Despite an installed capacity of 21,728 MW, nearly 50% of which comes from renewable energy, the intermittent nature of renewables continues to pose challenges in meeting 24-hour demand. He confirmed that all major electricity subsidy promises made by the government have been successfully fulfilled.

As per government orders, free power is being supplied to dhobi ghats, up to 500 units per month for powerlooms, and 200 units per month for handlooms. Free power has also been extended to hair-cutting salons up to 200 units per month. Farmers continue to benefit from nine hours of free electricity daily. The presentation also revealed significant changes in district-wise power consumption patterns between Q1 FY 2025 and Q1 FY 2026.

He shared detailed updates on the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), which focuses on smart metering and loss reduction works. The state has taken up feeder segregation works across 4,845 locations, with 1,657 completed and 1,672 in progress. In feeder bifurcation, out of 938 planned projects, 469 have been completed and 176 are underway. To accelerate renewable energy adoption and grid improvement projects, district collectors were briefed on specific action points. They were directed to review and monitor rooftop solar installations for all consumers, with special focus on SC, ST, and BC communities in every assembly constituency.
