The Gejje Pooje program “Nupura Namana”, organised by Sri Datta Natyalaya, was a delightful celebration of Bharatanatyam and cultural heritage, held on 23rd August 2025 at Savitribai Phule Auditorium, HCU. The event showcased the dedication and talent of five young disciples of Guru Smt. Rashmi Sachidananda – Adhira, Sahasra, Siri, Sruthika, and Veda, all aged between 10 and 15 years.
The students performed a series of five captivating items, beginning with Pushpaanjali in aadi taalam, followed by a soulful invocation to Lord Ganesha, Lambodhara geetham in Malahari ragam, followed by Alaripu in Tisra Roopakam, Samba Siva Yenave in Ragam Khamas, Ramachandra Rajeevaksha in Shankarabharanam aadi talam, Ambastavam in Mayamalavagowla ragam, Vanamaali Radha Ramana, typically a Krishna Bhajan in Brindavani saranga ragam, and concluding with the traditional Pavamaana Suthudubatti Mangalam in Sourashtram ragam.
Each piece reflected grace, rhythm, and expressive abhinaya, keeping the audience engaged throughout. Their synchronised movements, neat footwork, and vibrant energy were commendable, especially for such young dancers. Though there were minor slips, they did not take away from the overall charm and energy of the performance. With consistent practice and dedication, these budding artists are poised for a bright future in the classical arts.
The musical ensemble elevated the performance to another level. Vidwan Chandar Rao on vocals, Kolanka Anil Kumar on violin, Dr. Srikanth on Mridangam, and D. Jayakumar Acharya on percussion brought depth and richness to the presentation. Guru Rashmi Sachidananda, with her expertise on the nattuvangam, demonstrated exceptional skill and devotion, making the event a grand success. It is no small feat to train and present five students together on such an important occasion, and she executed it flawlessly, reflecting her passion and commitment as a Bharatanatyam guru.
