Minister for Transport Ponnam Prabhakar has directed officials to further strengthen enforcement activities across the state and take stringent action against vehicles violating transport regulations.
Speaking at a review meeting with transport department officials at the Secretariat here on Monday, the Minister instructed officials to conduct extensive inspections across Telangana, with special focus on overloaded vehicles, vehicles that have failed to pay quarterly taxes, and vehicles operating without valid fitness certificates.
He also directed officials to seize vehicles found violating regulations wherever necessary. Recalling the government's commitment to strengthening enforcement after the abolition of check posts, the Minister said that available manpower should be utilised more effectively to intensify inspections.
As part of these efforts, 10 special enforcement teams will be deployed across the erstwhile districts, along with two state-level special squads to carry out intensified inspections, he said. Emphasising the importance of student safety, Ponnam Prabhakar stated that school buses and mini-vans transporting students must possess valid fitness certificates.
He directed officials to seize vehicles found carrying students beyond their permitted capacity. He also called for strict action against educational institutions operating school buses without valid fitness certification.
