A total of 17 people, including seven children, lost their lives in the fire incident that broke out at a building at Gulzar Houz near Charminar in the wee hours of Sunday. According to the sources, the fire started around midnight in a ground plus two-story structure situated on the road of Charminar.
An explosion of the air conditioning compressor led to a loud blast which facilitated the rapid spread of the fire. As the incident occurred at night, the presence of smoke compounded the danger upon discovery. Three victims lost their lives instantly due to suffocation from the fire and dense smoke.
Narrow entrance to building spells doom
The deceased have been identified as Prahlad (70 years), Munni (70), Rajendar Modi (65), Sumitra (60), Hamey (7), Abhishek (31), Sheetal (35), Priyansh (4), Iraaj (2), Arushi (3), Rishabh (4), Pratham (1.6), Anuyan (3), Varsha (35), Pankaj (36), Rajini (32), and Iddu (4).
Speaking to media persons after inspecting the fire incident spot, Telangana State Disaster Response and Fire Services Director General Y Nagi Reddy said that the fire accident was reported between 6am and 6.15am.
