Switzerland has announced its intention to host the Global Artificial Intelligence (AI) Summit 2027 in Geneva, marking the next phase in a series of international discussions on the future of artificial intelligence. The announcement comes just days ahead of India hosting the 2026 edition of the summit.

In an official statement on Wednesday, the Swiss government said its top decision-making body, the Federal Council, has discussed Switzerland’s proposal to organise the summit in Geneva. A final decision on the host country for the 2027 summit is expected to be taken during the upcoming AI summit in New Delhi.

India will host the global AI summit from February 16 to 20, 2026, bringing together global leaders, policymakers, technology experts and researchers to deliberate on the opportunities, risks and governance challenges posed by artificial intelligence.

The Swiss government said the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications, with the support of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, has completed the necessary preparations to organise the summit in Switzerland. It added that funding for the 2027 summit has already been secured through the existing budget, supplemented by contributions from third parties.

High-level global AI summits have been held since 2023 to address the impact of artificial intelligence on society and its applications in sectors such as healthcare, climate action and agriculture. The first summit was held at Bletchley Park in the United Kingdom in 2023, followed by Seoul in 2024 and Paris in 2025.
