Telangana is poised to surpass last year’s record Rabi paddy procurement, with the State already procuring 70.06 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) and the total expected to cross 75 LMT, Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said on Wednesday.
Reviewing procurement operations with officials in Hyderabad, the Minister said another 4.95 LMT remained at purchase centres, while fresh arrivals from fields over the next week were likely to push procurement beyond last year’s record of 74.2 LMT.
Uttam Kumar Reddy directed district collectors and Civil Supplies officials to clear bottlenecks on a war footing, especially in districts where procurement was still underway. He said Nizamabad, Nirmal, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy and Vikarabad districts were expected to receive paddy arrivals for another ten days.
“Complete procurement before the monsoon intensifies. Farmers should not face losses due to weather disruptions,” he said.
The Minister noted that procurement operations in Suryapet and Nalgonda districts were nearing completion. He also reviewed storage arrangements and instructed officials to address space shortages immediately by identifying additional storage facilities wherever required.
