On the occasion of International Nurses Day on May 12, the Telangana government will issue appointment letters to more than 2,000 nurses as part of a major recruitment drive aimed at strengthening public healthcare services across the state. Officially, 2,322 Nursing Officers have been recruited through the Medical & Health Services Recruitment Board (MHSRB), marking one of the largest recent inductions in the health sector.
The appointment orders will be formally distributed on May 12, 2026, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale. The recruitment process included a Computer Based Test (CBT), certificate verification and release of a final merit list. The government is also moving ahead with recruitment for 375 additional nursing officer posts and 1,260 lab technician vacancies. Officials said the fresh appointments will help reduce pressure on existing staff and improve patient care in government hospitals, medical colleges and rural health centres.
This year’s International Nurses Day theme, “Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives,” highlights the importance of better working conditions, mental health support, fair compensation and career growth opportunities for nurses.
Sujata, Chief Nursing Officer and State Nursing JAC chairperson, said vacancies continue to arise regularly and recruitment is being carried out based on healthcare needs. She noted that the last major recruitment was held in 2024 with around 400 posts. She also stressed the need for a separate nursing directorate and stronger nursing leadership in the system.
She said nearly 1,000 nurses register daily, but recruitment remains insufficient compared to demand. The association welcomed the transparent recruitment process while calling for more posts, better staffing ratios and improved working conditions.
