Agriculture and Marketing Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao has directed the officials concerned to modernise market yards across Telangana through digitalisation, solar power installations and improved storage facilities.

During a review meeting with Marketing department director Rahul Raj at the state Secretariat here on Thursday, the minister called for end-to-end digital management of market operations, covering vehicle entry, weighing, sales, transactions and payments. He directed the officials to develop an online payment system for farmers to ensure transparency and eliminate irregularities.

The minister instructed officials to submit a comprehensive market digitalisation plan within 15 days. He was informed that solar power systems were being installed at 10 market yards, with plans to extend the initiative to others in phases.

Emphasising improved storage infrastructure, Nageswara Rao suggested adopting silo-based warehouses to maximise storage capacity and directed officials to increase the department's total capacity to two lakh metric tonnes. He also called for expediting the recruitment of engineering personnel through TGPSC or JNTU.

The minister further directed officials to establish a new market at Aziznagar and revive unused integrated markets in Toopran, Gajwel, Suryapet and other areas to benefit farmers.
