Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed the constitution of a special committee to identify and recognise activists who participated in the Telangana statehood movement and honour their sacrifices and contributions. The State Government issued GO Rt. No. 679 through the General Administration Department on Friday formalising the committee.

The decision comes in response to a long standing demand for official recognition of Telangana movement activists, many of whom made significant sacrifices during the agitation. Several activists lost their lives, suffered physical disabilities, faced criminal cases and underwent imprisonment during the movement for separate statehood.

Government Adviser Dr K. Keshava Rao has been appointed Chairman of the committee. The members include Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, MLC Kodandaram, MLC and Whip Addanki Dayakar, former MLC S. Ramulu Naik and Mothe Shobhan Reddy. The Political Secretary of the General Administration Department will serve as the Convener.

The committee has been entrusted with framing clear guidelines and eligibility criteria for identifying genuine Telangana movement activists. Based on these norms, it will prepare a comprehensive list of eligible persons and recommend the nature of recognition, honours and facilities to be extended to them by the Government.

The committee has also been authorised to consult officials, gather information, hold meetings and seek assistance from individuals or departments as required. The Government directed all departments and officials to extend full cooperation and asked the committee to submit its report at the earliest.
