Captain Sridhar Tata, a native of Srikakulam district will be the first commander of the warship INS Tamal, which will take off from Russia on July 1 and reach India. The ship, which will be inducted into the Indian Navy soon was jointly built by experts from India and Russia at Kaliningrad in Russia. The ship can launch the BrahMos supersonic missile, which can hit targets at land and sea. It is the 8th of the Krivak-class stealth frigates to be inducted into the navy in the last two decades.
Sridhar Tata, who is the first commission captain of such an important warship, hails from Chorlangi village in Srikakulam district. Captain Sridhar's grandfather's entire family worked in the armed forces. He studied at Korukonda Sainik School in Vizianagaram district. For the last 26 years, he has served in 12 warships in various capacities. Sridhar is also a founding member of the Maritime Security Wing under National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan on Wednesday dedicated the battleship INS Arnala to the nation at the Visakhapatnam Naval Dockyard. The Garden Reach Shipbuilders (GRSE) in Kolkata has built 'INS Arnala', an anti-submarine warship, to cater to the requirements of the Indian Navy. India's Defence Strategic Council has decided to manufacture eight more such vessels, of which Arnala is the first. It is 77 meters long and weighs 1490 tons.
It has been built with full indigenous knowledge in partnership with micro, small and medium enterprises with the slogan of Atmanirbhar. Recognizes enemy submarines and protects coastal security. Its services will be useful in terms of security in the Indian Ocean (IOR) region. It will facilitate surface surveillance, search and rescue operations. The ship is named after the famous fort in Maharashtra.
