Shri Kshetra Jharni Narasimha Temple also popularly known as Narasimha Jharna, which is located in Mangalapet, Bidar district of Karnataka, is about 4.5 kilometers from Bidar town and 140 kilometers from Telangana capital city Hyderabad. The cave temple is associated with Lord Narasimha, an incarnation of lord Vishnu.

Although there are many Narasimha Swamy temples in Karnataka and other states, but Jharani Narasimha Swamy Temple of Bidar is known as a special temple for its history. The lush green mountains around the temple, the serene atmosphere beckons the devotees.

People from Telangana and Maharashtra also visit the temple in large numbers every day. In a cave temple one time 8-10 devotees can go, so other devotees should wait for their turn to go inside the cave and take a darshan of Lord Narasimha. Saturdays generally witness heavy rush of devotees.

Earlier, the priests visited inside the temple for short intervals as the oxygen levels were low. But now, the authorities have made arrangements for oxygen in the cave making it easier for the priests and devotees now.

The devotees will have to pass through a cave with water flowing at a height of 4 to 4.5 feet for darshan the deity's image formed on the laterite wall at the end of the cave which is an architectural wonder.

According to the temple priests it is a swayambhu roopam, in other words, the deity is self manifested and is very powerful. It is a thrilling experience for the devotees visiting the cave temple as bats can be seen hanging and flying throughout the cave. It is a wonder that no one has been harmed by the bats till date.

According to the mythology of this temple, Lord Narasimha first destroyed Hiranyakashipu, also known as Hiranyakashyap, was a daitya king of the asuras and further proceeded to kill demon Jalasura who was known to be a loyal devotee of God Shiva. Lord Narasimha, after killing the demon, took the form of water and started flowing towards Lord Shiva. This is why people need to literally strive their way to get the blessings of the Lord. There are arrangements which were made recently to make sure that there is proper ventilation and electricity.

The end of the cave temple is the sanctum sanctorum which houses two deities Lord Narasimha and a Shiva Linga which the demon Jharasura (Jalasura) had worshiped. This temple is especially visited by many couples seeking children as this is one of its kind temples. Devotees visiting this cave temple will make their children sit on their shoulders while walking in this water filled cave.
