In the wake of the tragic explosion at Sigachi Industries Ltd., Pashamylaram, which claimed the lives of more than 40 workers and left several others injured, the Telangana government has constituted a four-member expert committee to thoroughly investigate the incident and recommend preventive measures for the future.
The Expert Committee includes-Dr. B. Venkateswar Rao, Emeritus Scientist, CSIR-IICT – Chairman, Dr. T. Prathap Kumar, Chief Scientist, CSIR-IICT – Member, Dr. Surya Narayana, Retired Scientist, CSIR-CLRI, Hyderabad and Chief Scientist, CSIR-IICT – Member and Dr. Santosh Ghuge, Safety Officer, CSIR-NCL, Pune – Member
The Committee's mandate includes determining the exact cause of the explosion, examining whether the unit followed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols, assessing violations in chemical and industrial processes, recommending systemic changes and preventive strategies for similar industrial setups and interacting with factory staff, management, and other stakeholders to gather a holistic view
The Committee has been directed to submit its detailed report within 30 days. The Director of Factories, Telangana, will facilitate and support the committee's work throughout the investigation.
