In a proactive move, the Telangana Government has reached out to educational institutions in Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab, requesting them to facilitate online classes for Telangana students returning from border areas. The initiative, spearheaded by Resident Commissioner Dr. Gaurav Uppal at Telangana Bhawan, comes in response to students’ appeals for more time to visit their families before resuming academic activities.
So far, 162 individuals — including 56 students from Jammu & Kashmir and 106 from Punjab — have taken shelter at Telangana Bhawan in New Delhi. Of these, 130 students have already departed for their hometowns after receiving the necessary support, while others continue to be accommodated at the Telangana Bhawan.
Many students shared that although their institutions have indicated improving conditions and urged them to return, they preferred visiting home first for emotional and logistical reasons. Responding empathetically, Dr. Uppal directly engaged with university authorities and secured assurances for temporary online learning provisions. Institutions responded positively, allowing the students some much-needed flexibility. A few final-year students expressed uncertainty about returning immediately, to which Dr. Uppal reiterated the government’s full cooperation and invited them to stay at Telangana Bhawan as long as needed.
With the situation in the border regions gradually improving, distress calls have subsided, and only a few more arrivals are expected. Nevertheless, Telangana Bhawan remains on alert, with Dr. Uppal stating, “Our doors will always remain open for anyone who needs support.” The Telangana government will continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of its citizens and is committed to ensuring their smooth return home, Dr Uppal stressed.
