Telangana is witnessing a significant transformation in rural connectivity, driven by the effective use of central schemes and a focused execution strategy by the administration. Data presented in the Lok Sabha recently gave more details about the all weather road access and strengthening rural infrastructure across districts in the state.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, Telangana has demonstrated strong implementation capacity, with the state machinery efficiently planning and executing road projects. In the Medak Lok Sabha constituency alone, projects worth Rs 130.90 crore were sanctioned over the last five years. Out of this, Rs 117.78 crore has already been fully utilised, reflecting timely execution and effective fund management.

In addition to dedicated road schemes, Telangana is strategically leveraging the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme to expand rural infrastructure. The programme is being used not only to connect remote habitations but also to build internal cement roads, side drains, and culverts, improving both accessibility and living conditions in villages.

District level momentum

The scale of work under the employment guarantee scheme during the financial year 2025 to 2026 highlights Telangana’s aggressive push. As of March 5, 2026, the state has completed 1,12,401 rural connectivity works, with a total expenditure of approximately Rs 818.28 crore. Additionally, 17,996 works are currently in progress, involving further investment of around Rs 201.31 crore.

District wise data reveals strong performance across regions. Khammam district has emerged as a leader, completing 7,287 works worth about Rs 85.34 crore. Karimnagar and Nalgonda also show robust progress, with 6,815 and 6,396 completed works respectively.

On the ongoing front, Khammam continues to maintain momentum with 2,061 active works. Meanwhile, districts such as Vikarabad and Siddipet are witnessing substantial investments in current projects, with expenditures of approximately Rs 30.69 crore and Rs 23.21 crore respectively. These investments are aimed at modernising rural transit networks and improving last mile connectivity.
