The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the Phase III Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Telangana, with house to house enumeration by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) scheduled from June 25 to July 24, as part of a major exercise aimed at ensuring accurate, transparent, and error free voter lists across the state. The final electoral roll will be published on October 1, 2026.

The SIR process is designed to verify voter details through a comprehensive house to house survey, identify duplicate or shifted voters, remove deceased electors, and facilitate inclusion of all eligible citizens. Prior to the field exercise, preparation, training, and printing related activities will be undertaken from June 15 to June 24. Rationalisation of polling stations will also be completed by July 24.

During the field verification exercise, BLOs will distribute partially pre filled Enumeration Forms in duplicate to existing electors and assist citizens in filling them correctly. BLOs have been instructed to make at least three visits to locked houses to ensure maximum coverage. Voters will be required to keep their existing EPIC number, address proof, and details of family members ready for verification. The process will also enable voters to provide details of parents or grandparents as reflected in the 2002 Special Intensive Revision records.

Citizens can also download and submit Enumeration Forms online. Physical submissions will be acknowledged by BLOs, while online submissions will be verified during field visits. The Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) will publicise BLO schedules in advance to ensure smooth conduct of the exercise.

For assistance, electors may contact the Election Commission helpline number 1950 or visit the official website of the Chief Electoral Officer, Telangana.

The draft electoral roll for Telangana will be published on July 31. The period for filing claims and objections will continue from July 31 to August 30, while disposal of claims and objections will be completed by September 28. The final electoral roll will be published on October 1, 2026. Eligible citizens can submit Form 6 for inclusion of names and Form 8 for corrections or transfer requests. Electors shifting from outside Telangana must submit a mandatory declaration along with Form 8.

The Election Commission has appealed to all voters, political parties, and stakeholders to actively participate in the revision process to ensure complete transparency and accuracy in the electoral rolls.

SIR to be conducted simultaneously in other States

The Election Commission has announced that Phase III of the SIR exercise will also be conducted simultaneously across 16 states including Telangana and three Union Territories, covering nearly 36.73 crore electors nationwide. The states include Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Jharkhand, and several northeastern states, along with Delhi, Chandigarh, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.

Over 3.94 lakh BLOs and 3.42 lakh Booth Level Agents appointed by political parties will participate in the nationwide exercise. With the completion of Phase III, the SIR process will cover almost the entire country except Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh, where the schedule will be announced later due to census and weather related considerations.
